Life lately: in November, I pinched a nerve in my back (omg that was miserable), rested and healed, then proceeded to do the strenuous work of packing, moving, and unpacking. As it goes, life got in the way of my writing a little. But one of my goals for the year was to finish the first draft of this project, and I can now say I did it!
mission accomplished
I’ve come to a point where I can reasonably call the first draft complete. After wrapping up the writing I had left to do, plus a light editing session while rereading on Saturday (this is my Saturday night tradition: staying up late, working on a creative project, and eating my favorite chips). I already can’t wait to get into the weeds of editing, formatting, and deciding on the order of each story and poem.
So how did I decide when I was finished? Basically, a while back, I hit the minimum page count I was aiming for. At that point, I stopped adding new pieces and focused on finishing the ones that were already there but weren’t fleshed out yet. Which also helped me boost my word and page count. And when I was done with all the stories and poems (aside from tweaks that will come in the editing phase), I figured that was a good place to call it.
